Awox smart lighting kit

With the smart lighting kit from Awox, manage the lighting atmosphere in your home at a lower cost. There are now many connected bulbs on the market, so it becomes complicated for a novice to make the right choice across this wide range of devices.

Through this new test, we will then discover the product and install it in the smart home to give you a clearer idea of the product.

A smart lighting starter kit

The kit under test today can be compared to a starter kit for the Awox environment. Indeed, this kit includes a connected bulb and a remote control to control the light atmosphere of the bulb.

Technical specifications

  • E27 low power LED bulb (energy class A+) 9W equivalent to 60W incandescent. 806 lumen at 3000°K
  • Adjustment of colour, light intensity and white temperature (from 2700 to 6000°K).
  • Operable with the free Smart CONTROL application, compatible with most smartphones and tablets equipped with Bluetooth® 4.0 or later, SmartPEBBLE wireless switch or remote control
  • Possibility to create groups (up to 50 bulbs per group) and extend the range to 100 m

The installation

The installation of the kit is relatively simple, let’s see the start-up procedure in detail.

1 Start by taking control of the remote control

2 Insert the two supplied batteries into the box on the back of the remote control.

3 Then comes the turn of the bulb. Take the Awox bulb in hand.

4 Plug this bulb into a lamp or ceiling light in the house and power it up.

5 Now press the first button of the remote control for a few seconds and voilà, your remote control and your bulb are associated! You can now adjust the intensity or colour of your bulb by simply pressing the buttons on the remote control.

On the mobile application side

If the Awox smart lighting kit can work perfectly autonomously with its remote control, it is still a connected object. In fact, there is a mobile application that allows you to control the bulbs even more widely. A well done application that reminds us a lot of Philips Hue’s, but it may not be so harmless after all….

1 As with all applications, you must go through the account creation step before you can start using it. Then create an account very simply via the small embedded form.

2 Immediately after installation, the application does not waste time and starts to discover the Awox objects within reach.

3 In order to easily dissociate the objects linked to the application, an option is available to photograph the device and give it a name.

4 It is then proposed to assign the object to a room in the house for a much more practical cetralized management later on. Finally, the objects already linked together as we did above with the bulb then go up on their own.

5 Similarly, these objects can also be customized for easier identification.

6 Once associated, the devices are listed in the “my devices” menu from there, unit management for each group via the parts, everything is possible. As far as colour is concerned, there are many choices.

7 Favorite color, selection via a spectrum or from a theme… Awox bulbs can reproduce 16 million colors, the choices are endless!

8 A sequence mode allows for light transitions. A disco mode allows to vary the light according to the tempo of the music, very nice transitions.

9 Finally, everything is planned with regard to device maintenance since updates are distributed from the application to the devices.

The Awox bulb and the Philips Hue bulb

What strange parallel will you tell me? Not so much, because if the Awox bulbs are close enough to the Philips Hue bulbs, by the designer or by the application, they are also communicating.

Indeed, I was surprised to see that the Awox application could discover my Philips Hue devices and add them like any other device. A very interesting point then, but I’m only telling you this for the moment, we’ll come back to this point in a future dedicated article!

Conclusion

A surprising Awox kit. I had never had the opportunity to take in hand the Awox connected bulbs before this test, I must admit that I am pleasantly surprised! A well made application, bright bulbs that deliver beautiful colors. A very practical remote control and it too very intuitive, finally a compatibility with Philips Hue bulbs very very interesting for the future.
